President Obama officially announced on friday (July 24th) his plans for the United States educational system. He plans on implementing a sort of "race to the top" in which schools compete for about $4.35 billion in grants. In other words, schools who dont follow his guidelines could miss out. His plan is for states to use funds to ease limits on charter schools, tie teacher pay to student achievement, and to move for the first time toward common educational standards in order to improve school achievement. Obama said in a oval office interview wednesday. "And we're counting on the fact that, ultimately, this is an incentive, this is for challenge for people who do want to change"Â The United States' public school systems has seen the quality of its education compared to other nations ridiculed and maybe this is a step in the right direction.
