Now there are thousands of hip hop music producers out there but only a few have gained the legendary status necessary to make this list. The rules are simple; the producers will be ranked on a number of things: longevity, creativity, versatility, relevance, and their ability to make their names legendary within the hip-hop community. Well start with number 5 on our list.

 

5. The Neptunes. The Neptunes are a innovative production team that pushed the bar creatively for hip-hop music. The sound that they created was impressive and inspiring. With their signuture piano riffs and off the wall synths.

 

4. Timbaland. Timbaland is an innovative producer and a certified heat maker. With a hit sheet that can go on for days, no reason why he shouldn't be considered top 5 all time. Recently theres been controversy with him suposedly beat jacking but it comes with the territory.

 

3. Kanye West. Kanye has catapulted himself into the top 5 category with his soul beats and capacity for making classics. He can definitely create heat with massive contributions to classic albums such as The Blueprint and The Dynasty. Lets not forget his album Late Registration with one of the most masterful beat catalogs in hip-hop history.

 

2. DJ Premier/Pete Rock. Legends. nuff said.

 

1. Dr. Dre. The doctor has been prescribing hits since the 80's and is the epitome of longevity. He has crafted hits for the likes of Snoop, Tupac, Nas, Eminem, 50 Cent etc. His ability to stay relevant while basically crafting the west coast sound, shows why he was given the number one spot.
